Known for its abundant natural resources, Shandong is often recognized for its grain and vegetable industries. However, the province also boasts a thriving seafood sector, with an impressive array of fresh fish, shrimp, crab, and shellfish that have earned it the reputation as a major player in China's seafood export market.
As a key coastal city in Shandong, Qingdao serves as a vital gateway for the province's seafood exports. It stands out as one of the most significant hubs for marine product trade and production.
In early March, during the peak season of "marine spring farming," the waters around Xuejia Island in West Coast New District, Qingdao, are dotted with rows of floating cages that stretch far beyond the horizon. These cages house high-quality fish species such as sea bass, salmon, and black rockfish. Vessels crisscross the water, transporting goods and workers who are busy with their daily operations. This area is home to the National Luohai Fishery Grazing Area Demonstration Zone, Qingdao's largest marine牧场 (aquaculture park), which plays a crucial role in sustainable aquaculture practices.
